Museum of Malformations of the Human Body
Unique in Belarus Museum of Malformations of the Human Body of Grodno Medical University was opened on 13 October 2000.
The idea of creating a teratological museum in Grodno belong to Yuri Kiselevsky and Valentin Kurchanov. Museum is located in the "Batorievka", where Department of Human Anatomy of the Grodno Medical University is located.
Batorievka - an architectural monument of the Italian Renaissance, built by order of King Stefan Batory of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 2nd part of XVI century.
In this palace of December 12, 1586 King Stefan Batory have died. He had nicknamed as "Iron" because of his good health. It's still unknown the reason of his death. One of the versions was poisoning. On the third day after the death of Batory, to resolve the dispute of doctors about the cause of death of the King, J. Barber Zigulits performed autopsy and embalmed his body. It was the first anatomical autopsy in Eastern Europe.
