National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus
National Art Museum - the biggest collection of national and foreign art in Belarus, where over 30.000 showpieces are stored which form 21 collections of artworks of Belarus and foreign arts. Now it's one of the biggest museums in Eastern Europe. History At 24 January 1939 the State Art Gallery of BSSR was founded. The first director was Miholap Nikolay Prokopyevich (1886-1979). Gallery got the most valuable artworks which were taken from temples. Large funds of paintings, graphics and art-and-crafts were collected. Some showpieces were transfered from historical museums of Minsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev and Gomel. At the beginning of 1941 Gallery had 2711 showpieces (about 400 were exhibited). After WWII only small part of collections were returned. From 10 June 1957 Gallery was renamed to State Art Museum of BSSR and got new building with 10 halls on two floors. Collection in that time counted about three thousand works. Starting from 1993 Museum called as National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
Incredible place with an indescribable atmosphere of creativity. It's been two days since the visit and I'm still impressed. A rich collection of paintings, it was impossible to put down, I regret that they had not discovered this national cultural treasure. Special thanks to the employees of the Museum, a cozy and quiet atmosphere.
The perfect place for art lovers. Contemporary art and history. Changing exhibitions. The place is not at once. You can go though every month.
Very compact museum with not bad pieces of belarusian and russian art.
An interesting Museum whose exhibitions are on several floors. Quiet and peaceful place. Many of the exhibits. Of course I wanted more.
Nice quiet place, with two large expositions. First in old classical paintings. And updated constantly in the new part. Affordable prices on tours and tickets.
A lot of interesting objects there you can find
Were not here? Lost a lot
Check it out - very funny but also informative on mainly Russian artists.
Great place. Often bring interesting exhibitions from other places. Quite expensive but overall very decent.
