With most eyes and cameras pointing towards Wawel it's easy to miss the Saint-Bernard, a church and a monastery founded by St. John of Capistrano (1386-1456), a Franciscan priest who has made a name for himself, among other things, encourage anti-Jewish pogroms. Built in the second half of the 15th century, Saint Bernard was designed as a refuge for those who wish to redeem their sins and live according to the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi. Fearing that he would be commandeered as a strategic base for the invasion of the Swedish troops the Poles burned the church of the earth in 1655, later, to rebuild it in its current state, in the Baroque style.
