Alexander public garden in Minsk was founded in 1836 on the initiative of Mayor Leopold Delpatsa. There is a fountain in the center of the park: it was installed by italian architector Bernini in honor of opening the city plumbing.
In 1890, in one corner of the square the building of the Minsk City Theater ("Winter" theater, today National Theater named after Yanka Kupala) was built. At its opening in 1888, there were even members of the Imperial family.
Next to the theater, the first in Minsk public toilet was built in 1912. The history of its creation is quite interesting. Toilet built a famous architect of its own funds in retaliation to one rich man. The man ordered the architect to build a city residence. And when the work was done - he refused to pay. For this architect built in the center of Minsk toilet - accurate reduced copy of the residence.
Alexander Square - the beautiful place to rest while sightseeing in Minsk.
