Park Kyoto was founded as a sign of friendly relations immediately after signing the agreement on cooperation and development between Kyiv and Kyoto in 1972.
In honor of the opening, as gift from Kyoto, park received a "five-meter square multi-storey column" – granite pagoda. Religious sctructure, in which usually relics are laid and which has a positive effect on the surrounding area. They can be of different types and forms, in this case it's a Japanese (Zen) stupa.
The architects tried to preserve appearance and symbolism inherent to Japanese gardens. There you can see stone seat of honor, stone cave, stone-guardian, stone-shadow-of-the-moon. Usual people perceive all this as a poetic refinement — no more. For Japanese, these names have a deep philosophical meaning.
There is a pond with waterfall, irises and traditional island in the park, with three ajour bridges. The unique trait of this place given by Japanese lanterns, hill, reproducing outlines of the famous Fuji, as well as selection of trees, each carrying a specific meaning: tree that hides waterfall, the tree, the setting sun tree...
