Bogdan Khmelnitskiy (relatively 1595-1657) — statesman and military leader, who was elected in 1648 as the Hetman of Ukraine. It was under his leadership started and ended successfully the liberation war of Ukrainian people against Polish domination in Ukraine. January 8, 1654 at Pereyaslavska Rada, the Hetman Khmelnitsky proclaimed the reunification of Ukraine with Russia.
According to urban legend, when the monument has taken its place, it turned out that the horse is somehow impolite turned tail to St. Michael's Zlatoverhy Cathedral. For this reason, the pedestal was redeployed, and the Hetman's Mace, which, by design, was to threaten Poland, was directed somewhere in the direction of Sweden.
