Mikhail Samuelevich Panikovsky is one of the main characters of popular novel by Ilf and Petrov "Golden Calf". It is a vivid collective comic character, socio-historical character of petty swindler of the early 20th century. The man without a passport — so often called Panikovsky, because he was involved in theft, fraud and begging.
Panikovsky was told about himself:
— I went in the glasses and wand on the Khreshchatyk and asked any mister to help the poor blind man to cross the street. Sir agreed and led me. On the other sidewalk he did not have watches, if he had one, or wallet. I paid the policeman at the corner of Khreshchatyk and Proreznaya five rubles per month and no one touched me.
This very interesting character could not pass unnoticed by Kyiv artists. In 1998, close to Khreshchatyk on Prorizna street the bronze monument to "blind" gentleman Panikovsky appeared.
The monument already has the signs. If you put change under his shoe, at midnight it will disappear.
If you put a mirror to the sole of the shoe, you will see a fig.
