Monument to Volodymyr the Great is the oldest sculptural monument of Kyiv, was erected in 1853. It is considered as one of unofficial symbols of the city along with the statue "Motherland", the monument to Founders of Kyiv, the Khreshchatyk street and Maidan Nezalezhnosti / Independence Square. It is located on the steep bank of river Dnieper in the Volodymyrskaya Gorka park. This area is considered the place of the christening of Rus (according to legend, it was here in 988 Prince Volodymyr Svyatoslavich was christened the Kievans).
The pedestal is decorated with beautiful sculture relief "Christening of Rus", the emblem of Kyiv and the Star of St. Volodymyr.
